Mapping procedure

To get a right point of view for the projection, following steps are required:

1. Put a model on the desk, and move a projection to the right position.
2. Run Photoshop and make a black canvas, 1024x768.
3. Mark with a white dot on each vertex.
4. Draw a line on each edge.
5. Import a trace image to Maya-imageplane.
6. Move a maya model to fit for the trace image.
7. And rendering!

*Step 6 is the most annoying. We should know that our model may not match perfectly. I moved vertices of a maya model a little to match with a trace image.

These are pictures from the class.

Making a complex model

As I've posted on previous articles, step for making a model is:
maya → pepakura → A0*2 + foam board*3
I used three 1t foam boards instead of 2t foam board for shapeness.

Maya texture animation

I made several texture animation for this project. It worked quite well but was faster than what I expected. I should change rendering option. (24fps is too fast.) Also, I think that there needs some interval during the animation. I will try more.

Practice for projection mapping - semi-complex model

make a big semi-complex model using foam board.

1. Procedure
similar to a procedure of making a mini model except:
- make a mini model(A4) before printing a drawing.
- print on A0. (costs 7,000 won to print using a plotter)
- put a printed paper on a foam board* for durability.
* foamax is preferable, but it's hard to work at home.
* I'm not sure which order is more effective;
ⓐ make a model → put a foam board under the model
ⓑ put the paper on a foam board → make a model

2. First Shot
I made a model mainly using extrude, polygon split and merge tool. But there was a face that was inside the model, probably error from merge. While not recognizing that, I saved an obj file and let it export to a drawing. After I completed  a mini model, I found the problem and fixed it. (Around edge no.14 is the problem. It's a really thin face that I didn't intend.)

3. Final Model
I modified the model and made a small one again. I was able to find some awkward points from the small one. Then, I got a final model.

My big semi-complex model.

Screenshots.

Small model before the final one.

4. Big Semi-complex Model
a. cut the paper roughly
b. put the paper on a foam board (used 3M 75)
c. cut them finely
d. make cuts along folding lines and remove flap parts of the foamboard
e. make a model

Practice for Projection mapping - making a mini model

(10/09/29)
make a mini model using paper before producing a big model using foamax.
1. Procedure
- make a simple model with Autodesk maya.
- export a maya model to OBJexport.
- make a deal drawing using Pepakura (link).
- print on A3.
- make a paper model and understand the possible problems!

2. Screenshots

* failed model : I used 'boolean' menu to make my first model. But this totally messed up the structure. I will not use boolean menu again.
